I Got Pregnant With An IUD That Was Perfectly In Place

Me: I know there are many options on the market, but is there one that is deemed the "safest" overall?

Minkin: If somebody wants absolutely no side effects whatsoever, a condom, contraceptive foam, or a diaphragm are very safe. They have no hormones and no gadgets – but, the problem is they have a higher failure rate. If you use them, knowing you will get a first trimester abortion if they fail, there have been statistical papers that say this is the safest method of contraception. The problem with this is it puts you through the emotional issues of having an unplanned pregnancy, which is a significant emotional issue for many people. In addition, most people don't want the inconvenience of using a barrier method and having to use it every time.

I would say birth control or IUDs with low levels of hormones can offer lighter periods and less cramps. There are all sorts of pluses and minuses as far as what is the best for you. You should talk to your doctor about what contraceptive is best for your needs. There is not one method that I can say is the best or the safest, BUT, what I can say, is that all methods are really quite safe.

Scrunchies Are Causing People To Think They're Experiencing A Mandela Effect

The scene above was proven NOT to be a Mandela effect though! The first edition of the DVD shows the scene with a dryer, but the later editions were edited to address safety concerns. Basically, Disney didn't want to set the example of children crawling in dryers – so their solution was to change the dryer into a pizza box.

This Woman Made A Behind-The-Scenes TikTok Of What Employees Do With Returned Products At Ulta

Bianca Ann Levinson has been an Ulta employee in Wichita Falls, Texas for over a year. And, she recently decided to share a video on TikTok about how most product returns are handled:

BuzzFeed spoke to Bianca who said she posted the video to spread awareness about what really happens to returned products. "I was truly shocked that this is how returns were handled," she explained. In the video, Bianca uses scissors to scrape unused eye shadow off of a palate and into the trash.

Bianca is also seen pouring out a full bottle of Redken hair product. "I wanted people to realize that when they return things it’s not always put back on the shelf. They should reconsider before returning items they purchased. I understand some people have to return things, but – if it’s not necessary – then I don't believe they should return it," she said.

Discarding returned products is called "damaging out" in the industry, and Bianca said that when she first got the job she had a hard time doing it to so many products – like the brand new Kylie Lip Kit she had to ruin in the video. "As time went on, I learned why it had to be done and it didn’t bother me as much. The main reason why things are damaged out is because of the possibility of cross contamination. If a seal is broken – even if it is unused – we have to either destroy it, send it back to the vendor, or send to DC where it can properly be discarded," she said.

Bianca also said there are dumpster divers who try to sell products they find in the trash online or return them to the store for credit. "If someone sells product out of the trash, it opens up the chance of someone getting sick or an infection and possibly suing Ulta," she said, adding, "We can’t donate for the same reason. Most brands don't allow it either. Ulta cares a lot about their customers and wants to do their best to keep them safe."

"When I work the register, I can honestly say about 45% of the people who come in that day are returning things. About 30% of the product returns are able to be put back on the shelf and the other 70% have to be damaged out and properly taken care of. We most definitely have over $1,000 worth of returned items per week. One time I had a customer come in and return more than $300 worth of makeup that had to all be thrown out," Bianca said.

What Bianca said is done to returned products at Ulta is a common practice. "I don’t want people to come for Ulta and stop going at all. I want people to know that stores like Sephora, Bath and Body Works, Target, Walmart and many others all have to do the same, too."

reddit.com

"If I had a say so in what could happen, I would like to donate things like hygiene products to women’s and men’s shelters. I know that we can’t because of the risk of infection and cross contamination, but if we could find a way to sterilize some products somehow, it would be worth a try," Bianca added.

Overall, Bianca loves being an employee at Ulta. The main message she wants people to take away from her video is to think before purchasing something...and think before returning it. You can lower the amount of wasted product returns at places like Ulta by asking for makeup samples to test out before purchasing them.

How to Make Your Bras Look Better and Last Longer

Who really has the time to handwash their delicates? Scrubbing your bras in the bathroom sink can take a backseat to life’s other obligations. Good news: Machine-washing your bras is totally allowed. “The day that I‘ll handwash my bras, I will have nothing else to do in my life,” Lawson says.

To prevent your bras (both everyday and sports bras) from getting tangled and mangled with other clothes, make sure the hooks are clasped and place your bras in a lingerie bag before tossing them in the washer. Set the water temperature to “warm” (not hot, not cold) and use a gentle laundry detergent that doesn’t contain chlorine or bleach. Let the washer run on the gentle or delicate cycle.

And for those dead-set on hand-washing, where are you getting all this free time? Anyway, fill up your sink with cool water and a small amount of detergent and fully submerge your bras. Let them soak for a few minutes before rinsing with fresh, cool water.

For everyday bras, give them a wash after every two to three wearings to remove all the skin cells, sweat, and other oils your body produces. Yes, it’s a hefty ask, but your bras will thank you later. Sports bras can get away with a wash after every use, but keep in mind the stress that washing puts on the spandex. To avoid a full wash, you can rinse the bra with warm water and let it line-dry in between workouts.

Here Are Answers To 17 Questions You Secretly Want To Know About Marriage

1. Q: "How do you know if you're with the person you're meant to spend your life with?" —minstrels

A: I think some people have a moment where they KNOW they found 'the one' and some don't. I don't think this means one marriage is going to last over the other. I actually never had that moment because I am someone who always has hesitations — no matter what — because I overthink things. Even if someone was scientifically matched to be my perfect person, I would still question it.

My husband always says that looks and attraction will never get you through an entire marriage. And it's true. I think a lot of people hold certain things — like looks — to a higher standard than they should when they look for a partner to marry. That stuff is not going to matter when real-life issues arise. Can your personalities coexist on a daily basis, are you able to rely on this person, and can you truly trust them? These are the types of things that are more important at the end of the day. Also, are you willing to put their needs before your own and make sacrifices in your life for them?

Lastly, another important thing to ask yourself is: Does this person inspire me? Because you eventually start taking on some of the same habits as your partner — even if you don't realize it. So, you really want to be with someone who is going to push you to be better and inspire you to live your fullest life.

I Tried The Most Viral TikTok Workouts For 30 Days, And Here's What Happened

Hi, guys, I'm Farrah! Like many of you, I love spending time watching TikTok. Some might call it an addiction, but I call it entertainment. After coming across many different ~viral~ TikTok workouts that could be done from home, I thought, I should get my ass up off my couch and try this. So I decided to chronicle my 30-day* journey for you, the internet.

Full disclosure: I wanted to do this because February is always a rough month for me. It's the anniversary of my dad's death, and often I find myself doing nothing but watching TV on my couch, so I wanted to start fresh in March. I was excited for the time change (more daylight!), and working out has always helped improve my mental health. So I found three TikToks that looked nonintimidating (I'm not a fitness guru here) and made myself a set of rules.

Farrah Penn / BuzzFeed

By the way, I'm not getting paid to promote any of these products. I bought them all with my own money except for the Goli gummies, which were sent to me to try free of charge — all opinions are 100% my own. I didn't change the way I would normally eat, though, because losing weight wasn't my goal. I did try my best to eat nutritious meals, but I ended up making boxed brownies three different times. No regrets.

The three TikToks I decided to go with were based on virality and diversity of the workout routine. @User392726user provided an ab routine, @alyssa.g.ross came through with legs, and @blogilates (who I believe is actually a certified fitness instructor) helped me out with some cardio.

I'm going to link each of their TikToks below, but I ended up writing out the routines for easier viewing. The circuits look like this:

Farrah Penn / BuzzFeed

The abs TikTok actually recommended doing the circuit twice, but I ended up doing it three times. You can definitely customize these for what works for you!

For easier viewing ability, here is the first TikTok (Set 1):

Here is the second TikTok (Set 2):

And the third TikTok (Set 3):

I know her description says "fat loss," but that wasn't my personal goal. I wanted a circuit that involved a lot of cardio exercises, and this fit the bill.

I started Week 1 with an optimistic mindset, but in reality it was...exhausting. Whenever I start a new workout routine or lifestyle change, it's a bigger adjustment than I realize. By the time I finished all three workout circuits, my body was tired. I was sore the next day. And the day after. But! I persisted.

My unamused face post-workout on Day 1, and my workout area in my apartment.

After my first week, I realized I needed to replace squat jumps and jumping lunges with mountain climbers and jumping jacks instead. It was too hard on my knees, and I didn't want to injure myself. The replacement exercises allowed me to keep my heart rate up, since the third circuit was more of a cardio routine.

Farrah Penn / BuzzFeed

Squats with leg raise (left) and jumping jacks.

Week 2 was my last "outdoors" weekend before social distancing began in Los Angeles. I spent one of my cardio days hiking, and the other was spent running 3 miles at the gym. I knew I was getting a pretty good workout with the TikTok exercises because I worked up a SWEAT every time I finished each circuit.

Farrah Penn / BuzzFeed

Me on the floor after a workout, feelin' like I could probably take a nap.

My dog, Gizmo, was very interested in what I was doing every time I got on my mat. I liked to think of him as my coach, pushing me to do JUST ONE MORE!!!!!! The ab circuit was beginning to grow on me, and the leg circuit was becoming my least favorite because of the difficulty. Legs have never been my favorite, though!

I started 100% indoor self-isolating routines by Week 3. The only thing that really changed were my two days of cardio. I ended up running 3 miles around my neighborhood for one of the days, and the other was spent jumping rope and doing mountain climbers plus jumping jacks for 45 minutes. I haven't jumped rope since third grade, probably, and forgot how hard it is! I was SO WINDED!!!!

My sluggishness started to fade completely during the end of Week 3. I was feeling good, both physically and mentally. I also felt better about bingeing shows if I was working out/stretching versus sitting on my couch. Also, I'm not sure if this was due to the TikTok circuits, the Seed probiotics, or the apple cider gummies, but I felt less bloated in the mornings, which was an improvement.

Farrah Penn / BuzzFeed

One upside: Running let me explore new streets in my neighborhood that I'd never been down before. Also, don't forget to wear a mask/banana/some kind of face cover!

I felt like I'd gotten into the groove by Week 4 and realized that if I'm going to be self-isolated indoors for another month, I have to do something active every day. Even if it's something as simple as stretching! Gizmo continued to join me during my floor workouts, which mayyyyybe got 5% easier.

Farrah Penn / BuzzFeed

Russian twists pictured above!

By the end of the month, I wasn't like, "THANK GOD THIS IS OVER WITH." I realized which exercises I would continue (abs, most of the cardio) and which I would leave behind (walking crab squats). If anything, this month introduced me to different exercises to try that maybe I wouldn't have done before.

Farrah Penn / BuzzFeed

Plank jacks pictured above!

After 30 days, I noticed that my face felt less "puffy" and bloated. I know the angles aren't perfect in the pictures, but I can see and feel a difference. I have a feeling this has to do with 1) increasing my cardio workouts and 2) omitting alcohol from my diet.

Farrah Penn / BuzzFeed

But who knows? It could also be because I included the Seed probiotic in my vitamin routine. Or was it the apple cider vinegar vitamins? A combination of everything, maybe?

Since I wasn't on a strict diet, there wasn't exactly a huge ending ~transformation.~ The ab circuit was the only thing that gave me a bit more definition, and all three of the workouts felt like they helped improve my pelvic-floor tilt/posture. However, the biggest and most important change was in the way I felt mentally, which is why I highly recommend doing at least 30 minutes of any type of indoor activity during self-isolation — it doesn't have to be TikTok workouts!

When I started the month, I had no idea the coronavirus would spread so quickly and that we'd end up self-isolating. These 30 days showed me that even though fitness studios and gyms are closed, you can still make the best of things by staying active at home in whatever way makes sense for you. It's helped me stay in a good headspace, so I hope that if you decide to try something like this, it helps you, too!
